Is the honeymoon over? Just teasing.

Actually, this spate of pieces on the sycophantic media is embarrassing to THEM. I expect some push back (possibly token and likely temporary).

The problem for the media is that they are so invested in his success. However, if they sense he is tanking, the media will abandon ship at alarming speed.

And another problem, these pieces are ripe low-hanging fruit just waiting to be plucked. They are so true and so obvious.

I really do think the honeymoon may actually be coming to an end--but I have been wrong plenty of times before.

I did note a bit of chilling in the honeymoon

On NPR this morning 3 shocking observations were made

The Obama recovery is way behind schedule in terms of unemployment rate

The Obama Stimulus plan might not deliver in terms of "jobs created / saved"

It is not really possible to count the number of jobs related to the stimulus plan.

I have not track media comments on this day by day or even week by week but this seems to be a significant shift from say 2 months ago.

Some play today on the "jobs created/saved" convention. A WSJ op-ed piece today calls it a fiction and a metric that is not measurable.

In re the unemployment rate and stimulus: I am convinced that is a winning argument for the Obama folks. A trillion dollar stimulus is bound to yield a slight and most likely temporary uptick in the economy. Focus on the recession and unemployment conflates and obscures the real structural problems in the American economy--but a friendly narrative of the coming economic upturn will provide a convenient platform for the President's reelection bid.

In short, focus on the recession and unemployment bodes well for the President.

Focus on the very scary expanding debt would be not so beneficial to the WH--and we have not seen that story as a centerpiece yet for serious discussion.

Of course, the San Francisco Gate piece is at once an example of how the honeymoon is and is not over. The very existence of the piece in a left-leaning organ like the San Francisco Gate reveals that the monolithic media is not nearly as monolithic as conservatives claim. At the same time, the fawning trend the piece depicts in the American media is undeniable.

I agree, Tocqueville. This take from the NYT may mean something. I am not totally blown away. I have found Peter Baker to be someone who cares a little about his journalistic integrity.

Maybe the burden of being Obama fanatics is starting to weigh on the better reporters.
