Spears was raised in Kentwood, not Kenner, Louisiana, where (by all accounts) she was actively involved in the Kentwood Southern Baptist Church from a young age. Kentwood is above the Lake north of Hammond.

Sadly, you are exactly right. We are a society that worships celebrity. The celebrities themselves are prone to the savage pride that exists within our sinful nature, and they are also subject to parasites who cling to them in order to share their fame, steal their wealth, etc.

Anna Nichole Smith is another tragic figure who suffered from the above and other awful things. The lure of these evils is strong, and only the grace of the Lord is powerful enough to overcome it.

What do you make of her involvement in the church?

Farmer: from my theological position there are two possibilities. Either she had a genuine spiritual experience and faith and has since "backslid" to use the Baptist term. In which case she will eventually return to faithful living. Or, she participated in the life of the church for purely social or personal reasons, without true faith.

Gardener:

Perhaps an even more telling question is: where will Britney find sanctuary in this terrible storm? From what I can tell, the media are reporting with glee her spectacular self destruction, never acknowledging the role they played in this personal tragedy.

On the other hand, the best thing that could happen to Britney and her children at this point would be for her to find a well-grounded church? A good church would gladly accept her and love her and help her.

As for the media and greater society: they (we) are just about finished with her.
