I only saw a few brief clips of Obama speaking yesterday.
He does not seem nearly as telegenic as he did during campaign etc.
Take a close look at his face. Is he just stressed and tired or is he angry and bitter.
To me he looks like he is having trouble covering his disdain for his audience - reminds me of Clinton in tough times.

Farmer. I must agree with photognome. He is naturally photogenic, as you say. But, look closely again at the eyes, and around the mouth.

You guys, I am guessing, are looking a lot closer than most. You remind me of my dad who used to tell me what a fraud JFK was. He might have been right, but that was not the impression JFK was leaving with the press and the people.

A lot of conservatives are jubilant about this perceived diminution of spirit--but I think it is mostly imperceptible to great throng.

They still like him.

As for Tocqueville's offering, I would not hang my hat on the one-term assertion.

Time will tell--but I don't look for the masses to turn on him anytime soon. One simple question: if they did, to whom would they turn?

Maybe true. However, I also doubt that four years will be enough time for the Republicans to get their act together and run a viable campaign.

One more thought on the James Pethokoukis commentary. Do the midterms look very rough for Obama? Absolutely.

But four years is a very long time for an economic downturn. Not saying it could not happen--but, if it does, whooo-boy--bad times.

It is more likely that we are in something of an upturn by 2012. Chances are good that Obama runs with a tailwind rather than into a gale.

And, again, any kind of upturn will be hailed as the greatest economic recovery of all time.
